Re-Shoot Blog: What Didn't Happen

Image
In terms of filming, I didn't have to refilm my scenes. It will be difficult to coordinate another day to film with my group members. All of us have busy schedules and I am only a teenager. I don't have a car yet so my transportation would be based on whether my parents are busy or not. This project is a group effort. So everyone had to be available. Also, I felt that the production looked great. I think the effect adds to the story line. Not everything is going to be perfect and that's okay. I am very happy with the results. The effort made to try to make the video look as creepy as possible was definitely a long planning process but it worked out. Another thing that didn't happen in terms of filming was having someone within the group film or act. I feel that having someone who knows nothing about the purpose of our production would just effect it negatively.  I wanted to be the main actor because I visually had the end result of the production in mind. There was a

Re-shoot Blog: Resorting to what we had

Image
In the last blog, it was mentioned that the camera quality looked dirty in a sense. This was because my phone is very cracked. The back is like shattered. The front also has a lot of damage. Most of the cracks on my phone are not my fault. However, I am a very clumsy girl. The only thing that isn't cracked yet is the camera. If the camera was cracked, I would just get a new phone because the video taking quality would be poor. For this production, we had no choice but to use my phone. This was because one of my group members' phone had no storage. That phone wouldn't let us film the rest if we had used his phone. My other group members phone was dying and it also barely had any storage. When I got to the scene, I suggested that we use a professional camera. One of my group members already had one and she knew how to use it really well. I thought this would be a great way to make the production look as real as possible. I was very excited to see how it would turn out. Howe

Peer Review Blog

Image
I have asked 2 of my other close friends to peer review the blog. I trusted them because they are normally very honest. I knew they wouldn't lie to me once given the task. Also, they wouldn't be really mean about. They are normally very sweet people and that's why I chose them. Their names are Lyne Thervil and Ella Agnese but she also goes by Valentina so that's what I will refer to her on here as well. I sent Lyne the video and gave her about 2 days to watch it. She forgot but it's okay cause I totally understand that she may be busy. However, when I reminded her she was very sorry and she did it right away. At first, she complimented the music playing in the background. She said it gave a very eerie feeling. She also complimented my acting skills since I was the main actor in this production. A third element she complimented was a certain scene when Nala's (the main character in the production) future self comes from the dark. Lyne said it scared her. This i

Finding the Music

Image
The process of the finding the music went very smoothly. I knew that I wanted music that would leave viewers on the edge of their seat. I wanted to have music that built the suspense. Not only would it make the opening sequence more realistic but it's also an element in horror films. With that in mind, I knew the music was had to mainly consist of sounds. There really shouldn't be any lyrics in the music. This element made it a lot easier to pick the music. If I had picked music that was very popular, I would have to email the artist asking for permission. That wouldn't be that big of a deal. However, for this production, it wasn't necessary. On YouTube, I searched up royalty free horror music. My group member found one before I could. When it was sent to me, I noticed it was an hour long. That was one of the first things to catch my eye because I knew there would be a variety of sounds to chose from within that one video. I listened to a few seconds of it. I knew t

Editing Blog: Software Used

Image
For this horror film, the editing platform used is very important. To make it as realistic as possible, I knew that using a phone to edit wasn't the right choice. Also using a bad editing software wasn't the right choice either. I didn't want to use CapCut. CapCut is a good alternative to go to if you are looking for something quick and easy. However, for this production, I didn't want to use it. The reasons being is that most of the cool features to help make the production more realistic need to be paid for. As I am a broke teenager, I don't have the money to spend on that. Also, I didn't want the final production to be choppy. So, CapCut wasn't the one for this sequence. Alight Motion is a better software. However, I wanted the production to be as realistic as possible. Both Alight Motion and CapCut are easy access to download on any device. However, my group members and I only had access to it on an iPhone. I didn't want to work with an iPhone caus

Editing Blog: Planning Ideas

Image
For this production, I was not the main editors. As I mentioned previously, I was the main actor. So my part in editing wasn't major. Although my other group members focused on it, I gave suggestions. I opened the document with the suggestions of all the editing elements that our video should include. I suggested that we should include a spilt screen for the conversation. One side of the spilt screen would slide away to create a cool effect. Especially with the titles on the screen. When creating the storyboard, I tried to visualize ways the editing would strength the production. For example, music, effects, and lighting. In a horror opening sequence, those elements are very important. I also they were very common when doing my research and seeing other horror opening sequences. I also had a plan. After filming the production, I made plans to help one of the main editors to actually edit it. I was supposed to physically be there and make literal edits. However, plans got in the w

Filming Blog: Completing the Process

Image
On February 10th, 2023, the production wasn't completed like I had intended it to be. However, I was also available on February 18th, 2023. Everyone else was also available. I love how easy it was to  accommodate everyone's schedule. I was able to set a time a reasonable time for when everyone would be available. I arrived at the scene at 4:03, ready to film. I refilmed my first scene because I felt the audio on the camera was fuzzy. So, I gave the suggestion to jus film on the phone. As time went on, I acted in more scenes. I wasn't the actual person to hold the camera. However, I did give suggestions on different angles and ways to position the camera. For example, when I was walking to a certain area, I would suggest the person filming to follow me to create a pan. This helps to bring the storyline out more. I finished all of my scenes at around 6:45. I felt very accomplished and stress-free at this moment. Getting the work done ahead of time and not having to be rushe

Filming Blog: Planning and Starting the Production

Image
For the final task I am the main character. I am acting in majority of the film. In the production, there is only 2 characters and I play the main girl. At my house, I had to pick out my own costume. I wanted to go for a look that people would wear in the early 2000's. So, I thought that a dress would be the best choice. To be more appropriate, I paired it with a oversized, black leather jacket. I also had shorts under the dress. In terms of props, I wasn't responsible for it. However, I did give ideas on what would be best for the production. In this case, I did my research and found images of a house phone that people used in the late 1900's and early 2000's. This prop did play a big role in the production so I'm happy that I did what I needed to do to make the storyline make more sense. With all this planning in mind, Feburary 10th was the day that I felt best fit my schedule to start filming. I arrived at the scene at around 2:40 pm. However, I didn't sta
